About the event
Lois first got involved painting barn quilts because she wanted to make something for her two-year-old grandson‘s bedroom. Since then, she has painted over 50 Barn Quilts! It was through a Facebook group that she learned about the book Hidden in Plain View: A Secret Story of Quilts and the Underground Railroad by Jacqueline L. Tobin and Raymond G. Dobard . This book presents folklore around the idea that barn quilt patterns were used as signals during the underground railroad to communicate among the slaves. This concept really intrigued Lois, so she decided that she wanted to paint message 10 quilt patterns.
