Scanner is located in AMC room, in the locked cabinet to the left of the
computer.

Staff member will unlock cabinet and pull out scanner for use.

Turn on scanner —
make sure “Ready” appears in the LCD window
before continuing.

Lift lid and set document in the upper right corner of the glass.

Close lid.

Double click on the (HP director) icon on the desktop of the computer.
Be patient. Screen will come up giving you choices.

Click on “Scan Document”. Click on “scan”. Wait.

Select from choices available on screen. The default is Microsoft Word.

Click on “scan”.

Click on “accept” if it is acceptable. If it is not, click on “new
scan”.

Box will come up asking if you want to scan another image. Answer it.

Be
patient while it opens your document. The image scanned is rarely an
exact replica. Be sure to proofread and make corrections as necessary.

After being scanned, text appears in “text boxes”. You must work within
these boxes. This is time consuming but necessary for good results.

When you are ready to save your work, click on “save as”, choose where
you want to save it, either disk, CD or desktop, name it and choose the
format that you wish to save it in.

We
suggest saving it twice. Once as a Word document and once in Rich Text
Format.
Please note: If you choose to save it to the “desktop”, it will remain
there for any computer user, who comes after you, to view. Periodically,
these desktop files are removed.

Close out of screens by clicking on the X in the right hand corner.

When finished, remove disk or CD and original from glass.

Please turn off scanner and push the drawer back into the cabinet and
notify a staff member that you are through so the cabinet can be
relocked.
